📰 M&A News
Display Advertising Rates Expected to Fall in January
Following typical annual trends, display advertising rates are expected to decrease at the beginning of January to the lowest level of the year. Display ad revenue in January can decline by 40-70% for site owners compared to December. This will increase in the number of website listings as sellers attempt to sell while earnings are depressed.
MilkRoad.com Acquired 10 Months After Launch
Milk Road, an email newsletter about cryptocurrency, grew to 250,000 subscribers and was acquired in just 10 months after launching. The newsletter was co-founded by Shaun Puri who co-hosts the popular My First Million podcast. It was purchased by Michael Wittmeyer, the founder of JM Bullion, and Kendall Saville, the founder of i15 Media and PlayUSA Media.
📈 Analysis: Buyer’s Market in January
January can be a good time for sellers to list their site because the higher Q4 earnings can make the average monthly earnings appear higher. The last 6 month average (L6M) will typically be at the highest point of the year in January.
If you are looking to purchase a site there will be more options due to the increased supply of listings. You can be more selective with your criteria and are in a better position to negotiate on price.
Keep an eye out for any recent drops in organic traffic as there were several Google updates in Q4 including the December 2022 Helpful Content Update and December 2022 link spam update. If a traffic drop was recent, the L6M average earnings can be misleading because it includes time before the update affected the site.
According to DealFeed, the average list price multiple is currently 35X across 372 online business listings.
